Scholarships: We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the growth, confidence, and joy of outdoor adventure. Thanks to the generosity of our community members, we have sliding-scale scholarships available based on individual need and program costs, helping keep our programs accessible to all.

ACADEMIES

NEW PROGRAM ALERT!! Trailhead Academy is a new 4-week program designed for students not enrolled in Expedition Academy who want to build confidence, expand their comfort zones, and develop skills to tackle new challenges. We’ll focus on creating healthy habits around fitness and time management while building personalized “toolboxes” for navigating life’s challenges. Life is full of hard things, and having the right tools makes stepping into the challenge zone possible and rewarding. Join us as we explore strategies, practice new skills, and build confidence together in a supportive environment. Classes will be held at the Oregon City or West Linn Library.

Program Overview:
Expedition Academy is a comprehensive, year-long program created by Adventure Ready NW for qualified students who are ready to grow in independence—both in the outdoors and in everyday life. With seasonal terms and breaks built in, this immersive curriculum combines practical life skill development with adventure-based learning and community connection.
Over the course of the year, students will:
Build self-awareness and independence in everyday life skills
Learn and apply healthy habits related to food, fitness, technology, and time management
Practice adaptive first aid and CPR
Gain tools for working through their challenge zones
Plan, prepare for, and complete a summer capstone adventure project
Receive mentorship and support through each stage of growth
Join Expedition Academy and take part in a transformative journey where you'll develop the confidence, habits, and skills to thrive—in the backcountry and beyond.
What a Day at Expedition Academy Looks Like:
We begin our day at the Gladstone 24 Hour Fitness with group workouts, followed by showers and getting ready for the day. From there, we head to lunch, where we practice trying new foods, placing orders, and work on fitness planning and goal setting. After lunch, we head to the local library for guided lessons and activities focused on that week’s topic.
Winter Term 2026:
In the Winter Term, we’ll focus on skill development to keep ourselves, our homes, and our minds safe and prepared for challenges. Students will:
Learn about their bodies and how to keep them safe in emergencies
Practice mental strategies and build “toolboxes” for navigating challenge zones
Develop emergency response plans for home safety
Explore online safety and responsible technology use
Take an adaptive First Aid and CPR Class and gain experience, knowledge, and certifications. (ADAPTIVE FIRST AID AND CPR IS INCLUDED IN EXPEDITION ACADEMY REGISTRATION)
Build independence and confidence in everyday life skills

Recreation Programs

Stay strong and fit this winter with our Winter Conditioning Class at 24 Hour Fitness in Tualatin! This well-rounded program is a perfect way to stay active, build strength, and maintain your fitness during the colder months. Each session features a mix of personalized coaching, strength training, and cardio, with optional access to lap swimming in the pool. Whether you’re looking to keep up your fitness, try something new, or enjoy moving in a supportive group environment, this class is for you. Come for the workout, stay for the community!

Wed. 2/25, 3/4, 3/11 & 3/18 , 4-6:00pm
Ready to take your running to the next level? Join our 10K Running Group as we focus on building endurance, improving speed, and running with purpose. Whether you’re aiming to set a personal best, stay motivated with a supportive crew, or simply enjoy the rhythm of training together, this group is for you. Over the course of the term, we’ll train with guided runs, interval and speed drills, and weekly check-ins to help you track your progress and stay on course. Our season will finish strong with the option to run a 10K race at Champoeg State Park in March. Note: Race registration is not included—you can sign up on your own. Let’s run, train, and celebrate your progress together!

Take your winter hiking skills to the next level with our Hiking 102 class at Tryon Creek State Natural Area! We’ll focus on navigating winter trail conditions, practicing essential skills, and building confidence for hiking in colder, wetter environments. Each session will combine hands-on trail navigation, safety techniques, and skill-building exercises tailored to winter conditions. Participants will learn to dress appropriately, manage slippery or muddy terrain, and use map and compass skills while exploring the beautiful winter landscapes of Tryon Creek. Whether you’re looking to improve your winter hiking ability, gain practical skills, or feel more confident on the trails, this class is the perfect way to expand your outdoor toolkit in a supportive and engaging environment.

Elevate your climbing skills and connect with fellow enthusiasts in our Community Climb class! Over four weeks at The Circuit, we’ll focus on refining techniques, tackling challenging problems, and building confidence on the wall. Participants will explore dynamic moves, complex sequences, and personalized coaching tips to take their climbing to the next level. This class fosters a supportive, social atmosphere where experienced climbers can collaborate, share insights, and push their limits together. Come for the challenge, stay for the community—let’s climb!

This 2-week program at The Circuit is perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their bouldering skills. We’ll focus on the foundations of bouldering, including technique, safety, and problem-solving, with plenty of time to practice and build confidence on the wall. Most importantly, this program is designed to be a fun and engaging experience—climb, laugh, and connect with others as we challenge ourselves and celebrate each success together.

Thurs. 2/26 & 3/19, 9:30-6 PM
Join us for two sessions of downhill skiing at the stunning Timberline Lodge! This program is perfect for beginners ready to learn the foundations of skiing, as well as experienced skiers looking to brush up on their skills. We’ll focus on the basics on Timberline’s beginner lift, ensuring a fun and supportive environment for everyone. Price includes lift tickets and rentals—if you plan to bring your own gear or have a pass, please let Cora know before purchasing.

Join us for a fun-filled family snowshoe adventure on the east side of Mt. Hood! This year, we’re switching from Mt. Adams to Mt. Hood, exploring areas like White River, Pocket Creek, and Barlow Butte (exact location TBD, weather and conditions dependent). This outing is ideal for families seeking to enjoy the snow, get outdoors, and experience the beauty of the mountains together. For those wanting to make it a full weekend getaway, Cooper Spur Resort offers cozy rooms to make your Mt. Hood adventure even more memorable.
Meet at the trailhead at 11:00 a.m. and return to the car around 4:00 p.m. Stick around for some time by the fire and hot drinks if you like! Cost is $125 per person, including snowshoes, or $100 per person if you have your own snowshoes.

Join us for a fun spring break adventure on the beautiful Banks-Vernonia Trail! We’ll enjoy a scenic group bike ride through forests and open countryside, taking in one of Oregon’s most popular rail trails. It’s the perfect way to get outside, stay active, and enjoy great company this spring break!

Join the ARNW community for an evening of history, adventure, and great company! We'll explore the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, where you can get an up-close look at historic locomotives, learn about Oregon’s rail history, and see restoration work in action. Afterward, we’ll head to Mt. Hood Brewing, where we’ll enjoy delicious pizza served inside a vintage train car. This is the perfect outing for history buffs, train enthusiasts, and anyone who loves good food and great conversation!

Join the ARNW community for a day of exploration along the stunning Oregon Coast! We’ll hike scenic trails, stroll along the beach, and take in breathtaking ocean views at local parks. After a full day of adventure, we’ll stop at a favorite spot for a delicious dinner before heading back to town. This is the perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the coast, good company, and a great meal!

Join us for a fun evening out at Bridgeport Village this spring break! We’ll start the night with a movie together, then head to one of the village’s many great restaurants for a delicious dinner. With so many exciting new films hitting theaters this season, we’re sure to find something everyone will enjoy. Whether you come for the food, the film, or the fun company, it’s the perfect way to relax, unwind, and celebrate spring break in style!

Celebrate spring break with a day of adventure in the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge! We’ll explore scenic trails to spot early wildflowers, take in stunning river and waterfall views, and enjoy the fresh air and camaraderie of a guided group hike. After working up an appetite, we’ll head to Cascade Locks for a delicious dinner to refuel and relax. It’s the perfect mix of outdoor adventure, natural beauty, and tasty food!

Basecamp Programs
Mon. 3/16 & 3/30, 10-4 PM
This hands-on, inclusive course is designed for neurodivergent students or those needing adaptive supports and offers a supportive environment where everyone can learn at their own pace. Participants will build practical First Aid and CPR skills that can be used in everyday life — from responding to minor injuries at home to knowing what to do in an emergency at work or in the community.
Students will leave this course with official certification and the confidence to act quickly and safely when it matters most. Learning these skills not only promotes personal safety but also strengthens independence and employability — especially for roles in recreation, childcare, community programs, and other settings where basic medical knowledge is valued.
This empowering class focuses on preparedness, calm decision-making, and creating personalized emergency plans for home and community safety.
Course Includes:

Official certification upon completion

Adapted curriculum for neurodivergent learners

CAMPS
Dates: Friday, January 23rd – Sunday, January 25th 2026
Location: Government Camp, Oregon
Join us for a Winter Adventure Camp in the heart of Mt. Hood, where you'll learn the foundations of cross-country skiing while exploring the breathtaking snow-covered landscapes. Set in the cozy town of Government Camp, this camp offers a perfect mix of instruction and adventure. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, you’ll have access to a variety of trails that cater to all levels. Enjoy the thrill of gliding across Mt. Hood's serene alpine terrain, surrounded by snow-draped forests and mountain views.
This camp is designed for adventure seekers eager to learn, connect with nature, and embrace winter. After a day on the trails, unwind in our comfortable lodging with warm beverages, hearty meals, and time for community with fellow participants and staff.
No prior experience needed—just a passion for the outdoors and a sense of adventure! If you would rather enjoy the beautiful trails on snowshoes, please let Cora know. If your student needs a PSW (Personal Support Worker) or if you have any questions about whether this camp is suitable for your student, please contact us to discuss.
