Program Overview:

Expedition Academy is a comprehensive, year-long program created by Adventure Ready NW for qualified students who are ready to grow in independence—both in the outdoors and in everyday life. With seasonal terms and breaks built in, this immersive curriculum combines practical life skill development with adventure-based learning and community connection.

Over the course of the year, students will:

  • Build self-awareness and independence in everyday life skills

  • Learn and apply healthy habits related to food, fitness, technology, and time management

  • Practice adaptive first aid and CPR

  • Gain tools for working through their challenge zones

  • Plan, prepare for, and complete a summer capstone adventure project

  • Receive mentorship and support through each stage of growth

Join Expedition Academy and take part in a transformative journey where you'll develop the confidence, habits, and skills to thrive—in the backcountry and beyond.

What a Day at Expedition Academy Looks Like:

We begin our day at the Gladstone 24 Hour Fitness with group workouts, followed by showers and getting ready for the day. From there, we head to lunch, where we practice trying new foods, placing orders, and work on fitness planning and goal setting. After lunch, we head to the local library for guided lessons and activities focused on that week’s topic.

Spring Term 2026 Expedition Academy:

Spring Term in Expedition Academy is all about skill-building and preparation for our Capstone Expedition in August. After focusing on habits in the fall and building tools and systems in the winter, spring is where everything comes together through hands-on, applied learning.

This term centers on developing the technical and physical skills needed for our upcoming adventures. Participants will work on foundational climbing skills during a top-rope climbing day, including tying a figure eight knot, belaying, and refining climbing technique. We’ll also focus on hiking skills specific to our South Sister summit goal—learning how to move efficiently and safely on steep trails while building endurance and confidence.

In addition, students will review essential backcountry skills such as tent setup, packing systems, and trail-based decision making. Each session is designed to help participants feel capable, prepared, and confident as we move closer to our culminating expedition.

Spring Expedition Academy is about turning knowledge into action, practicing real-world skills, and stepping into independence as adventurers and teammates.
