Through a combination of community-based learning, fitness, life skills development, outdoor education, and adventure experiences, students build confidence, increase independence, and develop practical tools they can apply in everyday life. Throughout the year, participants receive individualized coaching while becoming part of a supportive team environment.

Students will:

  • Build healthy habits related to food, fitness, technology, and time management

  • Increase self-awareness, confidence, and personal responsibility

  • Learn strategies for navigating challenges and stepping outside their comfort zone

What a Typical Day Looks Like: Students meet in the Milwaukie area and spend the day participating in community-based learning experiences, fitness activities, life skills instruction, and hands-on lessons. Each week combines real-world practice with guided instruction, helping students develop confidence, independence, and the skills needed to navigate everyday challenges.

Program Structure: Expedition Academy is intentionally designed as a progression of growth. Each term builds upon the one before it, layering essential skills and experiences across three core areas:

  • Fall: Habits- Building the daily routines, awareness, and mindsets needed for consistency and personal growth. Students focus on developing healthy habits around nutrition, fitness, technology use, time management, and daily responsibilities.

  • Winter: Tools- Equipping students with the practical tools and strategies needed to increase independence, manage challenges, and confidently navigate new experiences.

  • Spring: Skills- Developing and applying hands-on skills through real-world practice, culminating in a student-led Mini Capstone Project.
